World Autism Month During COVID-19 2021 Edition

As indicated in April of 2020, one of the purposes of the World Autism Month is to promote understanding, acceptance, and support for individuals with Autism (Autism Speaks, 2020). However, the Covid-19 pandemic continues to impact our ability to participate in large social gathering and once again this year many of the World Autism Month activities are occurring in a virtual format.

To encourage participation in these activities we have identified some activities that are still available this month:

And we continue to encourage you to show your support by sharing information about autism and evidence-based interventions. Here is a list of resources:

What is autism? (Autism Speaks)

Signs of autism (Autism Speaks)

Kits for kids teaches children about autism

Caregiver virtual trainings  (click on icon for caregivers and create an account)

Types of treatments (CDC overview of different autism treatments)

Evidence-based interventions (i.e., research indicates there are likely to result in positive outcomes) for individuals with autism

We must continue to work together to increase awareness and acceptance and thus create a more inclusive environment.
