Sweet Home Chicago
It’s that time of year again. Behavior analysts around the world are preparing to make their annual journey to meet friends and colleagues, old and new at the 45th annual meeting of the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI). We go to present our own research; but also to learn, listen, and discuss the most recent updates on topics spanning a wide spectrum of interests, such as basic science, autism and education, organizational behavior management, applied animal behavior, community, social, and sustainability issues, and of course, verbal behavior.
Enhance your ABAI Experience
If you are attending the convention for the first time (or even if you consider yourself an expert conference attendee), you may want to get a refresher on how to enhance your ABAI experience by reading the Behaviorally Educated blog from last year on this topic.
Among the many interesting lectures that will be featured, I am most excited for the invited B.F. Skinner Lecture by Dr. Dana Suskind, founder and director of the Thirty Million Words initiative, inspired by the seminal work of Drs. Betty Hart and Todd Risley, and the topic of the first blog in this series.
Here are links to just a few more of the many verbal behavior sessions you don’t want to miss!

Why Chicago?
If you’ve been attending ABAI for several years you may be wondering why we meet in Chicago so often (2005, 2008, 2014 are the three most recent meetings in the windy city). Besides being a beautiful city with lots to explore before and after the conference, we have a history with Chicago. The first meeting of what was originally called the Midwestern Association for Behavior Analysis (MABA – now a regional chapter of ABAI) was held at the University of Chicago in 1974. So, in a way it’s always like we are coming home.
